Job Description:
The Resident Service Engineer will serve as the on-site technical liaison at a major truck OEM, focusing on service and troubleshooting activities related to ZF PowerLine transmission technology. This position requires coordinating diagnostic and problem resolution efforts according to internal and external requirements, as well as representing ZF as the expert in function and application within the OEM platform. The Resident Service Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining a high level of service excellence.

Responsibilities:

Lead the diagnosis of complex field complaints through collaboration with OEM technical service personnel, OEM field Dealer personnel, and ZF personnel using available root cause analysis tools.
Act as a technical liaison to the customer, providing clarification and technical explanations of ZF product specifications, component functions, configurations, and backward compatibility.
Relay non-service-related requests to the appropriate departments at ZF.
Provide on-site support, as necessary, for any service issues arising during customer testing stages related to ZF products, including technical assistance for customer prototype and vehicle builds, vehicle tests, dynamometer and component tests, and transmission systems integration projects.
Actively participate in ZF continuous improvement activities, including testing and assisting in the development of products, improving data analysis techniques, and developing new service procedures.
Requirements:

Essential Skills and Experience:

B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical, Computer/Software, or related field/experience).
Deep knowledge of the technical components and critical functions of an automatic transmission and/or automated manual transmission, specifically within the medium-duty and heavy-duty truck market.
Experience in multiple troubleshooting strategies such as 8D, 5S, 6-Sigma, etc.
Experience with ZF Testman and associated systems for troubleshooting transmission issues.
Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).
Preferred Skills and Experience:

5+ years of experience as an engineer or technician within a powertrain development and/or manufacturing environment, preferably within the commercial vehicle or automotive industry.
Solid knowledge of North American Medium-Duty and Heavy-Duty truck OEMs, their products, and the technical requirements specific to North America (Class 3-8). Experience with North American Class 3-8 engines as they relate to automatic transmissions is a plus.
Experience with automotive communication links (SAE J1939; SAE J1587, etc.), engine controls, and transmission controls. Familiarity with standard engine/transmission service tools and software. Proficiency with data acquisition & development tools (e.g., ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, etc.).
Experience with VEPS EOL programming stations and associated processes in North American Truck OEMs.
Ability to pass DOT physicals and drug tests required to potentially obtain and retain a CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
